How buyers in Abu Dhabi are searching now
A growing share of buying research in the UAE now starts with a question to an AI assistant rather than a search box. “Which accounting firm in Abu Dhabi handles VAT for SMEs?” “Best dental clinic near Al Reem Island?” “Which agency can run Google Ads for a real estate developer in Abu Dhabi?” ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini and Google’s AI Overviews answer these directly, often naming two or three businesses and skipping the list of ten blue links entirely.
Generative engine optimisation (GEO) is the work of making sure your business is one of the names those tools mention. It builds on SEO rather than replacing it: AI assistants still rely on crawlable, trustworthy web content. But they reward different things — clear, quotable answers, consistent facts about your business across the web, and corroboration from sources other than your own website.
For Abu Dhabi, the opportunity is timing. Far fewer businesses in the capital are working on AI visibility than in Dubai, so the companies that structure their information properly now are the ones AI tools learn to recommend.

How AI assistants decide who to recommend
AI tools don’t publish their ranking rules, but the patterns are consistent across platforms. When an assistant recommends a business, it is usually drawing on four kinds of signal:
- Clear answers on your own site. Pages that state plainly what you do, where you do it and for whom — “We are an Abu Dhabi-based accounting firm serving SMEs in ADGM and Mussafah” — are far easier to cite than vague marketing copy.
- Consistent facts everywhere. Your name, services, location and contact details should match across your website, Google Business Profile, LinkedIn, directories and press. Conflicting details make AI tools less confident.
- Third-party corroboration. Mentions in local news, industry directories, reviews and “best of” articles tell AI tools that someone other than you vouches for your business.
- Structured data. Schema markup for your organisation, services, people and FAQs helps machines read your content accurately.
Our GEO service in Abu Dhabi works on all four together, because improving one in isolation rarely moves the needle.
Step 1: Find out how AI describes you today
Start by asking the tools yourself. Write down the 20–30 questions your customers actually ask before buying — in English and, if relevant, Arabic — and put each one to ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google. Record whether your business is mentioned, how it is described, which competitors appear and which sources are cited.
Most Abu Dhabi businesses find one of three things: they don’t appear at all; they appear with outdated or wrong details (an old address, a service they no longer offer); or a competitor is consistently recommended instead. Each points to a different fix, which is why an AI visibility audit is always the first step.
Step 2: Rewrite key pages so they can be quoted
AI assistants lift short, self-contained answers. Rework your most important pages so the first paragraph answers the core question directly, then expands. A good pattern is: who you are, what you do, where in Abu Dhabi you work, and what makes you different — in two or three sentences.
Add FAQ sections built from real customer questions, with concise answers. Publish specific, factual content AI tools like to reference: AED price guides, step-by-step explanations of local processes (licensing, approvals, timelines), and comparisons with a clear verdict. Generic “we are passionate about excellence” copy gives an AI nothing to quote.
Keep each page focused. A page that tries to cover every service in every emirate is harder to cite than one dedicated to, for example, corporate tax advisory for Abu Dhabi SMEs.
Step 3: Make your business facts consistent
Audit every place your business is listed: Google Business Profile, Apple Business Connect, Bing Places, LinkedIn, Clutch and other directories, chamber or free-zone listings, and social profiles. Use the same business name, the same description of what you do, the same phone number and the same website everywhere.
Then add structured data to your website: Organization schema with your official name, logo, contact details and social profiles; Service schema for each core service; Person schema for founders and senior experts; and FAQPage schema for your FAQs. This is the layer that helps AI tools connect the dots between your website and everything else written about you.
Step 4: Earn mentions beyond your own website
This is the step most businesses skip, and the one that matters most for recommendations. AI tools are far more likely to name a business that other credible sources talk about. In Abu Dhabi that can mean:
- Commentary or guest articles in UAE business and trade publications.
- Profiles on agency, professional and industry directories that rank for “best [service] in Abu Dhabi”.
- Genuine reviews on Google and sector platforms that mention your services and location.
- Speaking at local events, podcasts or webinars that publish write-ups online.
- Partnerships and case studies published by clients or suppliers.
None of this is quick, but it compounds: each credible mention makes the next recommendation more likely.
How to measure GEO progress
Re-run your question list monthly and track three numbers: how often you are mentioned, how accurately you are described, and how often you are cited as a source with a link. In Google Analytics 4, set up a channel group for AI referrers such as chatgpt.com and perplexity.ai so you can see the traffic and enquiries they send. Watch branded search in Search Console too — being recommended by AI often shows up as more people searching for your name.
Expect the first changes in how AI tools describe you within weeks of fixing your content and business information. Consistent recommendations usually take several months, because they depend on the wider web catching up.

Frequently asked questions
What is GEO?
Generative engine optimisation (GEO) is the practice of helping a business appear and be cited in AI-generated answers from tools such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini and Google AI Overviews.
Is GEO different from SEO?
GEO builds on SEO. Both need crawlable, trustworthy content, but GEO puts more weight on clear, quotable answers, consistent business information across the web and mentions from third-party sources.
Can anyone guarantee my business will be recommended by ChatGPT?
No. AI tools decide their own answers. What a GEO programme can do is strengthen the signals they rely on, which makes recommendations more likely over time.
How long does GEO take in Abu Dhabi?
Changes in how AI tools describe a business can appear within weeks of fixing content and listings. Regular recommendations usually take several months of consistent work.
Should Abu Dhabi businesses publish content in Arabic for GEO?
If your customers search in Arabic, yes. AI assistants answer in the language they are asked, so Arabic pages and listings help you appear in Arabic answers as well as English ones.
